The posts previous to this are of my first altspace at Snow College. Altspace is a gallery that only show student's work. Each student interested, submits a proposal for a show and hopes to recieve a week long spot in the room. We have openings every Monday at noon and the show stays up until friday. It's a competitive space and it's really exciting to earn a spot. This semester I've proposed my own show which will be coming up Nov. 17th. I'm also included in two other shows, one of which has already been executed. The show is called Rest in Place and it addresses the issue of junk. We as people buy things whether they are needed or wanted and use them until we are junk and then throw them away. Unfortunately a large number of this junk gets dumped in the hills and mountains where it doesn't belong. Myself, Leslie Freitas, and Joe Brunty decided to use our time in the altspace to bring this problem to attention. So for a week we gathered junk from where ever it was that it didn't belong. We found some behind an old thrift store, around town and up in the near-by mountains. There was a lot of interesting stuff such as couch springs, old cupboard doors, part of a toilet and so on. We gathered it all up and put pieces selectively into the space, using design principals to decide where each thing should be set. Then to tie everything together we threw leaves in and around the room. After all junk does tend to pile up like leaves. Here a few pics.
